Fall is the season of change. There are so much to learn about in this season of the year. Our preschoolers are learning about the changes of color on the leaves, items they see outside during this time of year, and plants that grow.

Fall Preschool Literacy Activities

Students simply found a letter and matched it to the letter on the pumpkin. We used mini eraser letters from the Target Dollar Spot to match onto the pumpkin. We were working on identifying and matching letters in the alphabet. You can match uppercase to uppercase or uppercase to lowercase letters.

We used these letter cards to begin tracing letters. For some of our little learners, we used mini erasers to build the letter on the card. Other students used a dry erase marker on the laminated card to trace the letter. This makes it easy to wipe off and reuse for the next student.

We used a pencil box to practice writing our fall leaf letters in sand. A pencil box with a lid makes a quick and easy clean up. Pick a leaf letter from the pile of leaves and place it in the box. Then write the letter that’s on the fall leaf. Lightly shake and slide the pencil box on the table to erase the letter and write a new one. This is a great way to use sensory play while learning the alphabet. You can use different fillers such as sand, colored salt, crumbed up leaves, etc.

Read this preschool apple themed book where students count the number of apples in the apple tree. We put velcro on the empty box on each page of the book and on the very last sheet to store the number pieces. Sometimes we put the pages in numerical order and other times we randomized the pages to make it more of a challenge for students who need it.
Fall Preschool Math Activities

I placed the paper numbered pumpkins at the end of a green pipe cleaner to make it look and feel like the vine of a pumpkin. Then we put the correct number of “pumpkins” (orange beads) on the vine. Students were working on counting skills as well as fine motor skills.

We used these measuring cards to measure the size of each pumpkin. We used blocks to measure the height of each pumpkin and used a dry erase marker to write in the height.

We saved the pumpkin seeds after we carved a pumpkin to use as counting manipulatives. I placed numbers inside this pumpkin ice cube tray and the students counted the appropriate number of seeds to put inside each pumpkin.

We placed and counted these scatter pumpkin manipulatives in the pumpkin patch. We put the cards on a ring to help the kids focus on one card at a time.
